Colorado Student-Centered Science Assessment Toolkit

The Colorado Student-Centered Science Assessment Toolkit is part of Colorado’s broader effort to support a coherent and comprehensive assessment system that improves teaching and learning. Within this system, classroom assessment plays a critical role in helping educators understand student thinking and support deeper learning.
This toolkit provides resources to help educators design meaningful science learning experiences and assessments aligned with the Colorado Academic Standards. The resources highlight classroom tasks, district examples, instructional supports, and tools that help educators connect science instruction, assessment, and real-world learning.
The toolkit supports teachers, school leaders, and district leaders in developing science assessment practices that center student thinking, sensemaking, and authentic application of scientific knowledge.
The Learning Series and Toolkit was developed and is supported, in partnership, with Dr. Sara Cooper at the Learning Policy Institute and Contextus.
