Assessment Division
Colorado uses WIDA English language proficiency assessments.
ACCESS assessments are secure, large-scale English language proficiency assessments given annually to Kindergarten through 12th graders who are identified as Multilingual learners (NEP or LEP). ACCESS results provide educators and parents with information about their child's English language proficiency level in the language domains of Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. The ACCESS assessments are standards-based assessments aligned to the WIDA Standards Framework/Colorado English Language Proficiency (CELP) Standards.
Identification & Placement
WIDA Screener/WIDA Screener Kindergarten are semi-secure English language proficiency "screener" assessments given to newly enrolled students to help educators identify whether they are Multilingual learners (MLs). WIDA screener is one component of ML identification.
