Board Member Rebecca McClellan (D)

Rebecca McClellan

Rebecca was selected as a Gates Fellow to the Harvard Kennedy School of Government program for senior leaders in state and local government. She is a graduate of San Diego State University. McClellan has represented the Colorado State Board of Education at the National Association of State Boards of Education. She has been a presenter at the Colorado Association of School Boards, the National Association of State Boards of Education, and Education Commission of the States. 

As Vice Chair of the twenty-six member 1241 Task Force, McClellan worked with stakeholders across Colorado over a fifteen-month period to make recommendations to address Accountability, Accreditation, Student Performance, and Resource Inequity. 

Rebecca is a former Mayor Pro Tempore of the City of Centennial, where she served on City Council from 2006 to 2014. As Council Liaison to local schools, she worked with state legislators and local stakeholders to develop and pass measures to improve school funding. Rebecca also worked with Bicycle Colorado to bring Centennial schools their first Safe Routes to Schools program.

Throughout their children’s K-12 public schooling, Rebecca and Jim enjoyed volunteering with classroom work, fundraising, and support for programs including music and the arts. Rebecca has served as a PTO executive officer, and on the executive board of her local district’s legislative network. Rebecca is a graduate of Leadership Cherry Creek. The McClellans are proud Colorado public university parents.

Rebecca McClellan was elected to the Colorado State Board of Education from the 6th Congressional District in 2016. She was re-elected in 2022. She has served as Chair of the State Board of Education since 2023. Her prior duties have included service as a Legislative Contact, as well as the Board Liaison to the Special Education Advisory Committee.
