Alternative Licensing Endorsement Areas

Applicant Information

Select an endorsement below to view its evaluation worksheet. Each worksheet outlines the way(s) in which candidates may meet content competency requirements before entering an alternative licensure program. All worksheets are in PDF format and will require the newest version of Adobe Reader to view.

Please note:

  • To qualify for an alternative teacher license with either an elementary education or special education generalist endorsement, either a passing score on the Praxis 5903 elementary math exam (5003 also accepted until 08.31.2026) or an "adequate evidence" notification in response to a multiple measures submission for elementary math standards is required.
  • To qualify for an alternative teacher license with either an early childhood education or early childhood special education endorsement, either a passing score on the Praxis 5024 early childhood education exam or an "adequate evidence" notification in response to a multiple measures submission for the education of young children standards is required.

Endorsement areas that may be earned through the alternative licensure pathway:

K-12 Endorsements:

Middle School Endorsements (Grades 6-8)

Secondary Endorsements (Grades 6-12):

The following endorsement areas presently are not available via alternative licensure:

  • Adapted Physical Education
  • Culturally and Linguistically Diverse
  • Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Bilingual
  • Gifted Education Core
  • Gifted Education Specialist
  • Math Specialist
  • Reading Specialist
  • Special Education Specialist: Visually Impaired
  • Special Education Specialist: Deaf/Hard of Hearing
  • Teacher Librarian

Alternative licensure pathways are not offered for:

  • Administrators
    • Administrator (Superintendent)
    • Director of Special Education
    • Director of Gifted Education
  • Special Service Providers:
    • School Audiologist
    • School Counselor
    • School Nurse
    • School Occupational Therapist
    • School Orientation and Mobility Specialist
    • School Physical Therapist
    • School Psychologist
    • School Social Worker
    • School Speech-Language Pathologist
