Welcome to Colorado Kids with Brain Injury! 

This website serves as a resource for educators, related service providers, community partners, families, and anyone seeking information, tools, and guidance to support Colorado students with brain injuries. It is a companion to the Brain Injury in Children and Youth: A Manual for Educators.


Educators & Professionals

 

This section is designed to provide educators and professionals with practical information and tools to increase identification of  students with brain injury and help determine appropriate services. The following resources are included in this section:

Brain Injury in Children and Youth: A Manual for Educators. The manual  includes information on neuroanatomy, developmental stages, assessing functional behavior, learning implications and intervention strategies as they relate to youth with a brain injury.

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)  Identification Protocol  A resource to guide the identification process for special education eligibility under Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), using either medical documentation or evidence of a significant history of TBI.

The Building Blocks of Brain Development  A framework designed to examine the brain processes most commonly affected by brain injury. This tool supports the identification of learning gaps, provides guidance on assessment tools aligned to the areas impacted, and offers a range of possible strategies for students with all types of brain injury.

Concussions in the School Setting: mTraumatic Brain Injury (Concussion) Provides information on Colorado Concussion legislation, relevant resources, and recommended tools for supporting Colorado students with concussion.
