This training is designed to support Colorado K-3 teachers and K-12 reading interventionists in making stronger, more equitable decisions about literacy instruction and intervention for students at risk or identified with Dyslexia. During this training, educators will explore:

• Foundations of dyslexia and what they mean for effective reading instruction
• How to use assessment data to identify student needs and design targeted, intensive interventions
• How to design and deliver explicit, evidence-based reading interventions aligned with the science of reading
• How collaboration with educators, specialists, families, assistive technology and AI tools can support accessible and individualized instruction

This training is designed to support Colorado K-3 teachers and K-12 reading interventionists in making stronger, more equitable decisions about literacy instruction and intervention for multilingual learners. During this training, educators will explore:

• Colorado’s policy context for multilingual learners
• How core literacy instruction, designated English Language Development (ELD), and intervention work together
• How to interpret literacy, language, and contextual data using a body of evidence
• How to design and deliver reading interventions that are explicit, targeted, and language-rich
• How collaboration with educators, specialists, and families strengthens student support

Description: 

The Structured Literacy Instruction coursework, approximately 4.5 hours in length, is an optional opportunity for K–12 educators and literacy leaders to enhance and deepen their learning in the science of reading.

This course introduces research-based strategies for effective Structured Literacy instruction. Educators will learn to implement explicit, systematic, and diagnostic approaches that integrate word recognition (decoding), language comprehension, and multisensory techniques. The module emphasizes robust lesson planning, assessment tools, and adherence to professional standards, setting the stage for differentiated literacy instruction.

Description: The Written Expression coursework, approximately 2.5 hours in length, is an optional opportunity for K–12 educators and literacy leaders to enhance and deepen their learning in the science of reading.

This course explores research-based strategies for developing writing skills across all grade levels, from foundational skills to advanced composition. Participants will examine models like the Writing Rope and Recursive Writing Process, emphasizing writing’s connection to reading. Educators will gain practical techniques to integrate writing across subjects, enhancing engagement, comprehension, and critical thinking. 

Description: 

This is a four-part course comprised of an Introduction and three Modules. This course is designed to provide participants with evidence-based strategies for teaching students in English and Spanish while working towards bilingualism and biliteracy. It is an open-source format designed to be accessible to anyone interested in learning more about best practices for providing biliteracy instruction in Spanish and English.
