Vaping Prevention Education Grant

About

This Vaping Prevention Education Grant is made possible by funding from the Colorado Attorney General’s Office (also the Colorado Department of Law or DOL) as a result of a nationwide settlement the DOL secured from JUUL Labs, Inc. on behalf of Coloradans to address the youth vaping crisis. The DOL is partnering with CDE on this grant opportunity – as part of a comprehensive, multifaceted approach that combines education, prevention, and treatment – to support local education providers in their efforts to combat youth vaping.

This grant program exists to provide funding to education providers serving grades K-12 to address the immediate and long-lasting health implications of vaping and the use of ENDS (Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems) by youth. The purpose of this funding is to increase Colorado schools’ capacity to address the youth vaping crisis, which requires a multifaceted approach that combines education, prevention, and treatment, including mental and behavioral health services for Colorado youth.

Funding runs from 2024-2027.

Funding:

Starting in the 2024-2025 fiscal year, approximately $3.8 million in grants will be awarded annually to schools, districts, or BOCES for three grant cycles. The grant program aims to support local education providers in combating youth vaping through a comprehensive approach that includes education, prevention, and treatment

Grantees will address the following areas throughout the grant cycle:

  • Addresses the youth vaping crisis through education, prevention, and treatment
  • Provides professional development opportunities for school staff
  • Increases family and community involvement in promoting healthy lifestyles and choices for students
  • Includes activities and programming that incorporate youth voices and are culturally responsive.
  • Adopt or enhance comprehensive vaping and drug prevention policies that include ENDS and move towards student-centered alternatives to suspension approaches.
