Emergency Feeding
When unexpected events like school closures, natural disasters, extreme weather or other emergencies happen, students still need access to healthy meals. The Summer Food Service Program and the Seamless Summer Option help make sure meals are available in these situations.
Emergency Feeding Requirements
To provide meals during an emergency situation, sponsors must:
- Be approved to operate
- Serve meals that meet meal pattern requirements, unless a waiver is granted
- Keep records of meals served using a daily meal count form or similar method
- Follow safety steps to protect staff and students
- Communicate meal distribution information to students, families and the community
Sponsors are encouraged to create an Emergency Readiness Plan to ensure a rapid and efficient response if an emergency situation occurs.
