ICAP FAQ (new)

ICAP stands for Individual Career and Academic Plan.  ICAP is a multi-year process that helps students: 

• Explore careers 

• Plan coursework 

• Set goals 

• Build skills 

• Prepare for postsecondary success 

The new ICAP model: 

• Uses a tiered approach for opportunities and supports 

• Emphasizes postsecondary readiness and K-12 engagement

• Aligns with Graduation Guidelines and the ASCA National Model

• Supports continuous improvement 

All Colorado students in grades 9-12 participate in ICAP as part of state requirements. The ICAP Model, however, is designed as a K-12 system of supports, and schools are encouraged to begin ICAP experiences as early as Kindergarten to help students explore interests, set goals, and build readiness for the future

ICAP helps students plan toward meeting Graduation Guideline options and preparing for postsecondary success. 

Districts implement the Model through: 

• Advisement structures 
• Career-connected learning 
• Postsecondary planning 
• ICAP programming 
• Data monitoring and scaling of supports
• Supporting students’ engagement in the Big 3 (College Credit, Industry-Recognized Credentials, Work-Based Learning)
