Industry-Recognized Credentials
Overview
Industry-recognized credentials (IRCs) are an important pathway for high school students to gain valuable skills and certifications that are recognized and valued by employers. IRCs refer to industry certifications and other nondegree credentials that demonstrate a student's mastery of specific knowledge and abilities.
These credentials are defined in Colorado state law and identified annually in the Colorado Talent Pipeline Report. They satisfy requirements developed to ensure they provide meaningful, industry-relevant qualifications.
Earning an IRC can give students a significant advantage as they transition from high school to college or careers. IRCs allow students to:
- Develop specialized skills and knowledge in a particular industry or field
- Obtain certifications that are sought after by employers
- Get a head start on postsecondary education or training programs
- Feel more prepared and confident in their future college and career pursuits
IRCs offer high school students an excellent opportunity to gain credentials that are respected and valuable in the workforce. They can help students get a jumpstart on their future success.
