Teacher Recruitment Education & Preparation (TREP)
Update May 2026
HB26-1357 would allow for current qualified 12th graders to participate in the TREP program for one year and ensure that current TREP students in their fifth year finish the program.
Intent to Participate 2026-27
There are two separate Intents to Participate (ITPs). The ITP for Year 6 students closed on May 1, 2026 at 5 p.m.
The ITP for Year 5 students closed on May 10, 2026 at 5 p.m. Spreadsheet uploads via Syncplicity were accepted until Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at 5 p.m.
Slot allocations will be communicated by Friday, May 22nd at 5 p.m.
The PWR of TREP
The Teacher Recruitment Education and Preparation (TREP) program was created by SB 21-185. The TREP program creates the opportunity for qualified students in an educator career pathway to concurrently enroll in postsecondary courses and earn college credit at no tuition costs to them or their families, for up to two years after the 12th grade year. Additional costs, such as textbooks, fees, and transportation, are not required by the district to cover, though some do. Students who wish to live on campus in a dorm are traditionally not allowed to, as high school students are ineligible to live on a college campus. However, some universities may provide a waiver to TREP students to access housing, but housing costs are not covered by the TREP program.
Qualified students who have completed one course in the Educator Pathway during their 12th grade year may be eligible to participate.

Postsecondary & Workforce Readiness (PWR)
TREP provides an accelerated opportunity for students to earn a postsecondary credential, helping students develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to be postsecondary and workforce ready.
Funding
TREP participants remain students in their Local Education Provider (LEP) for up to two years following their 12th grade year. The LEP receives TREP specific per-pupil state funding that it uses to pay their college tuition at the resident community college rate. Students receive their high-school diplomas at the end of their TREP year. [C.R.S. § 22-35-108.5]
