Teacher Recruitment Education & Preparation (TREP)

HB26-1357 would ensure that current TREP students in their fifth year finish the program but would discontinue new enrollments, including students currently in 12th grade who would have otherwise been eligible for participation.
Intent to Participate (ITP) 2026-27 Open
Currently, the 2026-27 ITP is only open to students who are enrolled in their 5th year in 2025-26. The TREP ITP is due May 1, 2026.
The PWR of TREP
The Teacher Recruitment Education and Preparation (TREP) program was created by SB 21-185. The TREP program creates the opportunity for qualified students in an educator career pathway to concurrently enroll in postsecondary courses and earn college credit at no tuition costs to them or their families, for up to two years after the 12th grade year. Additional costs, such as textbooks, fees, and transportation, are not required by the district to cover, though some do. Students who wish to live on campus in a dorm are traditionally not allowed to, as high school students are ineligible to live on a college campus. However, some universities may provide a waiver to TREP students to access housing, but housing costs are not covered by the TREP program.
Qualified students who have completed one course in the Educator Pathway during their 12th grade year may be eligible to participate.

Postsecondary & Workforce Readiness (PWR)
TREP provides an accelerated opportunity for students to earn a postsecondary credential, helping students develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to be postsecondary and workforce ready.
Funding
TREP participants remain students in their Local Education Provider (LEP) for up to two years following their 12th grade year. The LEP receives TREP specific per-pupil state funding that it uses to pay their college tuition at the resident community college rate. Students receive their high-school diplomas at the end of their TREP year. [C.R.S. § 22-35-108.5]
