Black Historical and Cultural Studies Advisory Committee
During the 2025 legislative session, the Colorado General Assembly passed House Bill 25-1149 concerning comprehensive socio-cultural Black history education in public schools. This legislation created a Black Historical and Cultural Studies Advisory Committee whose members were appointed by the Governor, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the President of the Senate. The committee consists of 17 diverse members representing the Black community.
The Committee is charged with:
- Making recommendations to the State Board of Education and the Colorado Department of Education(CDE) in conjunction with the regular six-year review of the state’s education standards.

Identify and recommend materials and resources for inclusion in a resource bank.

At the request of a local education provider, collaborate with the CDE to provide technical assistance to the local education provider in designing age-appropriate curricula pertaining to Black historical and cultural studies.

Meeting at least twice a year.
