Implement the Colorado Academic Standards

Colorado Academic Standards: All Students, All Standards

Following the adoption of the Colorado Academic Standards (CAS) in the Spring of 2018 by the State Board of Education, these implementation materials were developed and supported by the Office of Standards and Instructional Support.

Parts of these materials are now out-of-date. However, they follow a general formula that we still recommend:

  1. Develop users' understandings of disciplinary literacy and their standards literacy, so they may understand the purpose of and construction of the CAS.
  2. Adopt curriculum that is aligned with the standards, so that all students have opportunities to attain the learning goals described in the CAS.
  3. Align instruction to use methods best suited for learning the content described in the CAS, so that students can engage in the kinds of disciplinary practices that accompany the content of the discipline.

These materials were designed for their ease of use in small, rural school districts, where one leader (such as a principal or curriculum coordinator) may coordinate standards implementation for multiple content areas at once and may not be a specialist of the content area. However, any and all systems can use these materials.
